Man's time and Lunar time vary. For a detailed explanation of the events listed, see below.

The times shown on this page are calculated from Greenwich, London. For Avebury, add 7 minutes.

Ceremonies have been carried out in and around Avebury for millennia. Although the details of these might have been lost in the course of time, they are still celebrated in one form or another. The majority of these ceremonies are open to all, and you are free to take part or just observe.

The Calendar structure is based upon the full moon and the eight Celtic festivals called Sabbats . The four greater Sabbats; Imbolc, Beltane, Lunasa and Samhain. The four lesser Sabbats are the equinoxes and the solstices. The greater Sabbats can be celebrated by either a calendar date or the full moon in a particular sign, i.e. Beltane - May 1st or the first full moon in Taurus.

At the zenith time of every Full Moon, a druidic style observance, led by Terry, the keeper of the stones, takes place in the cove. Due to the nature of the zenith, it can occur at any time of the day or night. Although these observances can be thinly attended, they always take place and can be the most rewarding of any of the events listed in the calendar.

On the nearest Saturday to each major festival or Sabbat, Arthur Pendragon (or his representatives) meets at The Red Lion public house and conduct a Sabbat Ceremony starting about 2 o'clock in the afternoon in the Sun Circle. Note these may be earlier or later. Be there on the day to find out what, who or even if they happen.

Ritualistic energy raising circles are also carried out around the time of the full moon. These alternate between the waxing (the night before) and the waning (the night after) of the full moon.  These are carried out in the north east sector of the circle (far side of the cove). These are usually timed to start at 10:45 at night and end by midnight. Note: these circles are being made more family orientated and so may well be brought forward in the evening so as to allow children to participate. The aim is to draw down some of the energy of the full moon and they will be conducted when the moon is visible in the sky. When a full moon occurs around this time of the night, as in March, or November 2008, this will change to Avebury time, and it will happen when it happens. Be there to find out.

And Finally, the Avebury Moot takes place every first Sunday of each month at 3 o'clock in the well room, at The Red Lion public house. This is an open discussion forum, for any related topics. Again, anyone is free to attend. We usually have a main speaker to give a talk on varied interesting subjects. For a more up to date calendar of latest speakers and topics, check out the AVEBURY CIRCULAR

If you would like to give a talk, please contact Pan of Avebury via the AVEBURY CIRCULAR
