Sarah Rutter is 101 and has dementia; she has been the sole resident of Parkview Care Home in Stockton on Tees since July. Her family went to both the High Court and the Court of Appeal in an effort to keep her where she is, but yesterday they found out they’d been unsuccessful, and she will now have to move.

We speak to the Public Guardian, Martin John, who was appointed a year ago to safeguard the rights of people who can’t make choices for themselves, and to oversee the workings of the Mental Capacity Act. Tomorrow will see the launch of a review of how that Act is working.
